What I would like to know is: How did they get back to Montana, North America, after the flight? It is unlikely they could just land the ship. --Compaq 18:52, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't believe it was shown. It's possible that the front capsule detached, re-entered the atmosphere (leaving behind the missile and nacelles, etc.) and, using 21st century technology, was able to safely land in Bozeman. Then, perhaps within a few years, astronauts rescued the remaining hunk and towed it back to Earth for the museum.--Tim Thomason 20:10, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
This always bugged me. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 199.46.198.237 (talk).

Removed

Removed the following as not relevant to Star Trek, though it could go on the Star Trek parodies and pop culture references page.

In "Thunder Force VI", the background history for the RVR-00 Phoneix details it being named Phoenix in reference to Earth's first warp-capable cruise ship, a possible reference to Cochrane's Phoenix.--31dot 21:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Only one I can think of was the TOS-8-button [1] (copy paste link location). --Pseudohuman 20:22, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Warp core

How did Cochrane get enough antimatter to power warp core? I dont think government did not control antimatter reserves (1 gramm of antimatter is capable of 42 kiloton nuclear exposion) OR - it seemed that in ST universe a civilisation WITHOUT harnessing antimatter is capable of warp drive crafting? PS But it would be more cool if we get a civilisation with phazers and other energy weapons limited to ship-size. Good ole FIREARMS as personal weapons :) The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.196.80.59 (talk).

We don't know, as it wasn't said.--31dot 18:56, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I think it was once stated that any civilization with nuclear power could break the warp barrier (I think this was said in TNG, though I can't remember the episode right now, it could be a book), which implies that you could use nuclear energy to go at least warp 1, and it was a nuclear missile. Either way, the antimatter isn't really used in a warp engine, just the energy from the reaction, so any power source producing the same amount of energy should work, like the Romulan Artificial quantum singularity drive. - Archduk3:talk 18:40, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Landing

How did it land? Hidden wings? Parachute cockpit and burn up the prototype? Parachute the whole ship? (No visible heatshield) The preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.201.16.253 (talk).

That was not shown in the film. But we know the ship survived intact, since it was intact in the Smithsonian in 24th century according to the film. --Pseudohuman (talk) 22:14, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
