Position on the Enterprise-A?[]

Can anyone provide a source for this section?

Chekov was reassigned as second officer, navigator and security chief on the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

I don't see any evidence for anything beyond "navigator". Yes, he does once take command of the bridge when Kirk and Spock are off the ship, but that doesn't mean he's officially the second officer. We don't even know if such a position even exists in that time period. And as for security, that also seems unsupported. He doesn't wear Security green, and in TUC he forgets that firing a phaser will set off alarms. I suggest we should trim the section down to only the facts we can source. It seems as if they wanted to give Chekov a different role in The Motion Picture, but over the course of the films has slowly reverted back to the position he had in the original series. He was the weapons officer (tactical officer) in The Motion Picture, then became science officer or first officer of the USS Reliant in The Wrath of Khan, then returning to the Enterprise he took the weapons console again. In The Search for Spock, we see him right back at navigation. He went to the science station in Spock's absence (as he was dead and needed to be restored). I think he took the weapons console again during the battle with Kruge. He seemed to take the navigation console on Kruge's ship/HMS Bounty after they stole it. This of course leads us to the Enterprise-A. He was right back at navigation where he stayed for all three of that ship's appearances. So, I say he was the navigation officer on the Enterprise-A, just as he was on the original Enterprise before the refit. Vern4760 (talk) 03:30, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

That makes sense. At least in TMP, he was wearing Security colors to justify his new role. Starting with TWOK, he always wore science gray (navigation got moved from operations to science starting with TWOK). He gets credited as first officer of the Reliant in dialogue, but obviously that's not incompatible with science division. I think we eliminate everything other than "navigator" since that's all we can confirm. Disco McCoy (talk) 19:35, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
