Article nameEdit

I don't seem to recall hearing these lights being called palm beacons on-screen. Was it stated in the script or some other official source? If so, is it worth placing a background note in the article? -- TrekFan Open a channel 20:38, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

They were referred to in dialogue in "The Game" (Data: "Wesley's subsequent diversions gave me adequate time to modify the palm beacon") and "Preemptive Strike" (Riker: "That array has such a narrow scan field. We might as well break out the palm beacons and try to find them that way.").–Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 23:25, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

Cool. Thanks, Cleanse. -- TrekFan Open a channel 23:28, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

Minor edit, modifications Edit

Didn't Data alsom modified a palm beacon to emit a ultra level of light that show up Tarchannen III species. (TNG: "Identity Crisis")?GinnyStar-STD MOT 22:55, July 17, 2011 (UTC)

Background Info Edit

I remember reading somewhere that these devices didn't have batteries inside them. The actors wore battery packs, and an electrical cord connected the battery pack to the light in their hand. This was why they never put them down or took them out of their hand or held them in some other position when they were on, even when it would obviously be advantageous to do so (e.g. Worf trying to open a jammed door one-handed in TNG: "The Vengeance Factor". I think I read it in the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, but cannot confirm. Anybody else ever hear this? Piso Mojado 03:41, May 7, 2012 (UTC)

Sounds right, though like you I can't remember where I heard that right now. 31dot 09:50, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
