Operations ManagerEdit

Shouldn't this page be titled Operations Officer? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 7th Tactical (talk).

Well the position isn't necessarily filled by an officer, you know.
When it is not its called "operations chief" -- and both alternate names are in fact noted in the first line fo the article, in case you didn't notice.
I'm not sure if either term has been used in canon, but this is derived from the ST:TNG Technical Manual, and was adopted as it was the closest thing to a canon name the position has. Technically, it has most often been called "ops" or "chief of operations" onscreen. -- Captain M.K.B. 20:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
It wasn't used in dialog. --Alan del Beccio 20:45, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
To reiterate, the term "chief of operations" was mentioned 17 times (in one ref it was described as a "rank"), "operations chief" = 1 time, and "operations officer" had two meanings, one being "operations division" (in "Trials and Tribble-ations") and the other being this definition, and also described O'Brien (in "Facets"), as well as Data and Kim. Either way, the term "operations manager" wasn't used in dialog. --Alan 01:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
For the record, the term 'Operations Officer' could apply to both enlisted and commissioned officers holding the position. In this respect, the word 'officer' means someone who carries out a duty. -- TrekFan 02:00, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
