Nuclear weapons platformEdit

The device in question is first referred to as an "orbiting nuclear warhead platform," then as a "suborbital platform with multi-warhead capacity." The United States of America planned to launch its own device in response to other world powers that had already deployed similar platforms. According to Spock, "the sky was full of orbiting H-bombs," in the late 1960s. Kirk understood these to be one of Earth's greatest problems during that era.

This opinion was shared by the unidentified race that sent Gary Seven to Earth in 1968. It was their plan to cause the the warhead to malfunction and detonate approximately 100 miles above the planet's surface in order to frighten the Earth's governments away from using such weapons. Seven commented that planet Omicron IV nearly destroyed itself over similar "nonsense."

History records that the United States space agency, NASA, did launch such a platform in 1968 from McKinley Rocket Base. While not generally revealed, a malfunctioning suborbital warhead detonated exactly 104 miles above Earth's surface on the same date.

This is a complete re-write, so I would invite comments and suggestions, especially regarding the title of this entry. --GNDN 20:23, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

The above is supposed to be your suggestion for the article content? Looks good so far, just the first sentence would of course need to be edited to have the title as bolded text. I'm not sure what the best title would be, myself. If those two names were used on-screen, and "nuclear weapons platform" was not, then move to either one of those, preferably the shorter one, and have the other title as a redirect to it. -- Cid Highwind 11:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

MergeEdit

This should be merged into the article "Orbital weapon platform." (Vince 03:31, 20 March 2008 (UTC))

Why? In no way other than being in orbit are they the same thing. --OuroborosCobra talk 03:43, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Of course they are. They are both weapons, in orbit! (Vince 03:52, 20 March 2008 (UTC))

I'm rare to do this, but I have to say this very suggestion is idiotic. One is a platform containing nuclear weapons for attacking the Earth built in 20th century. One is a Cardassian weapon system built in the late 24tth century, armed with 1000 plasma torpedoes, massive shielding, etc., designed to defend a star system against starships. They are different in almost every single way. Anyone can see that. This may be one of the worst merge suggestions I have ever seen. Sorry to be blunt, but there it is. --OuroborosCobra talk 04:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I just thought we could piggy back the nuclear warhead platform in the orbital article with a back ground tick. I guess the more articles the better. (Vince 04:09, 20 March 2008 (UTC))

Hooray for personal attacks. --Alan 01:32, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
