Directions and "Mark" numbersEdit

Whenever a direction is given, it is expressed as an angle plus a "mark". Is there any definition of what these figures mean?

Thanks, Rojomoke 16:00, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

The word "mark" separates two angles. The first angle is the azimuth (around the vertical axis), and the second is the zenith (degrees up or down). For bearing, these are relative to the ship. For the "heading", the azimuth is always Zero when the ship points to the center of the galaxy, as explained in the Star Trek Encyclopedia on page 186. See also: Wikipedia:Spherical coordinate system. The radial distance is the "forward" component of the vector, say the warp factor. --Bp 17:29, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
