• While not especially dangerous, the insect was widely hated, largely due to its bite. This bite left an anticoagulant in the wound, causing itching. Certain diseases could be carried via the mosquito, most notably malaria. Only the females bit, and they also produced a irritating buzzing noise which the males lacked.
