Mark OkrundEdit

Marc Okrand in his books describing the Klingon language suggested that Maltz may have revealed the Klingon language to the Federation and to Marc Okrand.

I think this reads strangely. Did Marc Okrand write the Klingon Dictionary from an "in universe" perspective, where he (Marc Okrand) was actually a character, who was presented this information for documentation?
Something like that. Okrand presented as if Maltz was interrogated to provide information of the language to the "Federation Scientific Reseach Council," with Okrand as an unnamed correspondant. --wa' DaHoHchugh chotwI' SoH, wa''uy' DaHoHchugh charghwI' SoH, Hoch DaHoHchugh Qun SoH. 02:15, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Klingon Dictionary contradictionEdit

The Maltz and Vulcan sources need not be mutually exclusive. Languages tend to evolve over time. At the least, Klingons would have created new words for technologies new to them (or expanded/changed their definitions of existing words). Its unlikely Vulcan sources included every possible Klingon word. Its very unlikely that Klingon humor was sufficiently noted in the Vulcan sources. Other 'emotional' concepts may also tend to lack meaningful definition in the Vulcan sources. The Klingon language may have different dialects. And there has been more than one Klingonese alphabet seen (which suggests the possibility that the race has or had more than one language at some past time). Language, alphabets, dialects, and definitions are likely linked to the current regime (on Earth, Rome favored Latin which replaced Greek, for example). These and other factors could present sufficient divergence from mutual intelligibility to make Maltz' knowledge of Klingonese essential to the (fictional) Klingon Dictionary writer where the Vulcan sources were lacking. For all we know, the Vulcan sources may consist only of democratic Klingonese. Such a dialect would be outdated, limited in its usefulness, and offensive speech to Klingons not born into that 'unfortunate' time period. While what you say makes sense, to add it to the main body of the article would be speculation. I am, however, going to remove the "contradiction" phrasing in the article. -Angry Future Romulan 15:09, June 15, 2012 (UTC)
