Loomis' name was a homage to Joseph Hoover's character in the movie Hell Is for Heroes, who was also a captain (albeit an army captain, i.e. the equivalent of a Starfleet lieutenant).

Can we get some sort of confirmation for this? --Alan 07:57, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I can't seem to find any confirmation, but this "Hell Is for Heroes" homage fact is repeated on several other pages (Parker (Commander), Nadia Larkin, Reese (AR-558), Kellin, "The Siege of AR-558") which implies a slight amount of legitimacy to the comment.--Tim Thomason 22:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
According to the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, the selection of the names was intentional. according to p. 628:
The writers picked names for the new characters from among the cast and characters' names in the motion picture Hell Is for Heroes, one of their favorite war films.
So, there you go. :) --From Andoria with Love 22:18, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
