Move to "lifespan"? Edit

I reckon this page should be renamed lifespan, as that's the correct spelling; it's all really one word. --Defiant 21:39, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

I concur. --RocketN9 21:41, June 22, 2012 (UTC)
Leaning oppose. Wikipedia has "life span" as well as Maximum life span. While not the be-all-end-all, it's a guide. That said, what matters is how scripts spell the term, and we should use that as a guide. 31dot 21:46, June 22, 2012 (UTC)
I suggest that, however it is written, that both versions could be in the first line of the article (life span or lifespan). 31dot 21:54, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

Well, as far as I can see, the scripts are split, with those of TNG: "Disaster" and Star Trek Nemesis stating "life span" but those of TNG: "Unification I" and DS9: "The Passenger" saying "lifespan". --Defiant 22:12, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

Dictionary.com has "life span", just for our information. 31dot 22:18, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

The plug-in US dictionary for firefox has it as "lifespan" (though that's obviously not definitive, either). I'm personally happy to go with either. :) --Defiant 22:39, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose, and we already have the other one as a redirect. Webster has it as two words, so I think it's safe to say that the American spelling has a space. - Archduk3 22:45, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

RemovedEdit

An anon changed the changeling lifespan to immortal with this bit of text :

Changelings are essentially immortal (although they could be killed, they did not age after maturity). DS9: Favor the Bold: Female changling to Odo: "You are a Changeling. You are timeless - as am I".

I don't think that's anywhere near a clear enough statement to interpret as changelings being immortal. For one, the female changeling was just talking about Odo having become too preoccupied with the solid's obsession with "their meetings, their schedules, their obligations" -- Capricorn (talk) 13:18, August 2, 2014 (UTC)

Removed speculation Edit

I removed the following speculation:

This could indicate a generation every one hundred years. Given that the average human generation is close to 30 years, and we live around 60-90 years, it may be fair to say Denobulans live for 200-300 years.

-- Renegade54 (talk) 19:57, October 6, 2014 (UTC)

Removed more speculation Edit

I removed the following speculation:

Assuming that Antarans mature at the same rate as Humans, and that Hudak is thus about 49 just like his actor at the time of filming, a normal lifespan of about 110 years can be speculated.

-- Renegade54 (talk) 20:01, October 6, 2014 (UTC)

And one more... Edit

I removed the following speculation:

Assuming Trill don't mature much faster than Humans and Ezri was 28 like her actress, that might mean Trill could expect to live about 110 to 120 years. However, given that Ezri was still in training, she might have been intended to be younger than that.
