I don't know if the bottom note is necessary. I would think we should assume a Kelvan is a Kelvan is a Kelvan, as doing otherwise creates endless problems on how we interpret refereces to any known species. Tyrant 00:34, 26 Jan 2005 (CET)Tyrant

The thing is, we would otherwise assume that the Kelvans were never heard from again after that TOS episode. But then Worf mentions it. And are Kelvans twice the size of a Klingon? How would he know? I think the note is necessary. --Malimar 04:11, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Spock states that the Kelven natural form is large and with 100 tentacles that are used as limbs, if my memory serves me. Unless there is something that is obliviously different with the Kelvens I don't think the note belongs. --TOSrules 08:46, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

drive technology Edit

in the "By Any Other Name", the kelvans refit the enterprise so it will reach Andromeda in 300 years. 300 years to travel 2,500,000 light years is about .95 light years per hour, or 8333.3333c. about warp 20.274 using the w^3 formula of TOS. thats a pretty impressive upgrade. what i find interesting is that in TNG: "Where No One Has Gone Before" the Enterprise-D at maximum warp would take 300 years to travel the 2,600,000 light years from the Triangulum Galaxy. this means the Ent-D would be moving at nearly the same velocity as the orginal Enterprise. it also implies kelvan drive technology is comparable to the next Generation Period federation warp drives. of course, the Kelvans stuck around in the federation, so perhaps they helped upgrade the drive technologies. -Mithril 18:29, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
