His last name... Edit

We all know that Winona's dad, James' last name couldn't've been "Kirk". That was Winona's married name. But... why leave him without a last name? It has to be in the history of the Ledgendary James Tiberius Kirk! Why wouldn't it be? Or, in the history of world-famous Star Trek The preceding unsigned comment was added by Renesmee Janeway (talk • contribs).

Nope. It's never been mentioned. -Angry Future Romulan 14:38, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

The Name "James" Edit

According to Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek: The Motion Picture novelization, James T. Kirk received his first name "James" because it was both the name of his father's beloved brother as well as that of his mother's first love instructor. This contradicts Star Trek. If we were to consider the novel to be canon, how could we reconcile this contradiction? Perhaps, James T. Kirk's parents George Kirk and Winona Kirk named him after only two of the three men named James in their lives, after only George's brother and Winona's love instructor but not Winona's father James (Winona Kirk's father), because they were closer to the first two men than to the third; whereas, in an alternate reality, George named James T. Kirk after Winona's father, because they were closer to her father than to the other two men named James, and more importantly, because George, when he was about to sacrifice his life to save his family and the remaining survivors of the USS Kelvin, wanted to reflect Winona's love for him, as she had just suggested naming the newborn James T. Kirk after George's father.
