Does anyone have a source on his 'maiden name'? Even from fanon or published novels. Matthew Platts 10:17, 12 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I've always taken it for granted that it was Lwaxana who changed her name upon her and Ian Andrew's marriage. The fact that Deanna's son was named Ian Andrew Troi II would seem to bolster that assumption to me--a Mary Doe, daughter of John Doe and Mary Smith, usually isn't called Mary Doe II in accordance with her mother's married name, after all.
- However, to be fair it was never actually 100% stated in canon which spouse changed names, so I suppose it could go either way, though I think it's unlikely. -- Miranda Jackson (Talk) 11:23, 12 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I assumed it was Ian who changed his name, with Betazed being a matriarchal society. It seems to be substantiated by Picard making a joke based on Capt. Riker's legal name being 'Troi' in Nemesis. I'm probably insane though. Matthew Platts 00:45, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Captain Picard calling Captain Riker "Mr. Troi" was just a joke. Just like calling Captain Sisko "Mr. Yates." Sort of a "who wears the pants" ideology. Mainphramephreak 08:15, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
