:Speculation on it's origin doesn't go into the article. There's also a {{w|Victor Horta}} who was a famous architect. Given that the Horta were silicon-based and repaired with cement and a trowel that Victor Horta could also be a name origin. Too many possible reasons for a name, unless an official source comes up we don't put it in. :) — [[User:Morder|Morder]] ([[User talk:Morder|talk]]) 22:41, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Is there any value in adding a "Category:Silicon life form" as a sub-category of Life form?

Risk of Extinction

As much as I like the line about the Horta being at risk of extinction, I think the part about the new Mother Horta being "created" and "transported through space" is just too speculative. Also, we don't know for sure how many Horta were on Janos VI. Perhaps there are various populations, some of which may never had been at risk from the miners. Federation 02:09, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree. It should be deleted. Besides, if the mother dies, why wouldn't the eggs still hatch? Mr.gn 22:59, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Deleting that line (again?). -Randy 09:37, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Memorable Quotes

As this is not an episode or movie, it seems like it shouldn't have a "Memorable Quotes" section. Shouldn't those quotes go under "The Devil in the Dark" article? Mr.gn 22:57, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Never mind; I figured out what's going on. Mr.gn 01:52, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Origin of Horta name?

Hello,

Instead of putting this info in the article right away, I'd like to put it out there for vetting.

I have read elsewhere that the Horta was named after sound editor Sam Horta. Does anybody know if Mr. Horta worked on TOS? We know for a fact that there was never an onscreen credit for Mr. Horta on any episodes of TOS.

However, I did hear the transporter energize sound effect in the 1962 animated film Gay Purr-ee - for which Horta did receive an onscreen editor credit. Some outside of Memory Alpha have surmised that Mr. Horta, if not the person responsible for its creation, was at least the person who brought that now-famous sound into the TOS sound library.

I am mentioning all this information because if Sam Horta indeed worked as a sound editor on TOS, that would be evidence that the Horta was named after him.

Finally, I don't know of anybody else with the name "Horta" (except for sound editors Denise, Eileen and Andrea Horta, all of whom are related to Sam).

Just wanted to put this out there.--99.167.195.150 18:40, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
