All 1701 Edit

Regarding this recent change to the article - is it really confirmed that all shuttles belonged to the Enterprise, or just many of the visible ones? If it's the latter, than this change contains speculation and needs to be reverted. Probably some other edits by the same user as well... -- Cid Highwind 09:30, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

  1. There is no empty pad seen where this could have been, but the missing slot on the right side could be where it was
  2. Taking off in first shot
  3. Next to a military shuttle
  4. Across from a shuttle with numbers on the forward window
  5. Seen behind Kirk standing next to the Dimassa 01 and outside the medical bay windows

Spacing is based on the light poles when close and overall shuttle spacing further on. The CGI added depth in the shot gets a bit loopy, so there are missing light poles. All the shuttles seem to be reusing the Enterprise's registry, but the shuttles in the distance aren't readable, and I'm sure it was just the reuse of the same shuttle template for the shot, just like there are at least two shuttles 2 with the one on the left not having a visible registry. - Archduk3 13:38, May 27, 2011 (UTC)

Removed Edit

In reality, Hangar 1 is located at Moffett Federal Airfield, approximately thirty kilometres southeast of San Francisco. Built for the construction of the USS Macon, a U.S. Naval airship, in the early 20th century, Hangar 1 remained one of the tallest freestanding structures in the world, and became the focal point for the NASA Ames Research Centre during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. It can be reasonably assumed that, because of these associations, Moffett Federal Airfield and Hangar 1 in particular were transferred to Starfleet control, continuing their service three hundred years later.

Unless Abrams or the writers stated this was intended to be the same facility or a reference to it, this paragraph is speculation and irrelvant to Star Trek.--31dot 17:54, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Well, logically...

I'm kidding, obviously—you're right to remove that paragraph. Still, filming the scene at Moffett and actually referring to Hangar 1 as Hangar 1 was a neat detail, and to the attentive viewer, it further grounded the film in 21st century terms. I could see Starfleet inheriting the facility from NASA; I've always wanted to see what would happen to Cape Canaveral or Edwards after Starfleet assumed aerospace operations. --Rosenbridge 19:37, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Source for the name? Edit

where does the designation "Hangar 1" come from? --Shisma
