  • [R.J. Blaise] was removed from the series at the behest of Gene Roddenberry's licensing office. Gene (or Paramount associates) were concerned that supporting characters were again stealing the spotlight from the main crew.

This has lacked a citation for quite some time. I haven't been able to find any source except for message board posts and a non-sourced statement in wikipedia. If someone can find a reputable source, by all means return it.–Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 09:18, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

There was a comment from PAD looking back on the time that this incident actually occurred, but I can't find where it was stated. It may be on his website/blog somewhere. He had a lot of pretty nasty things to say about the relationship with the licensing guy that was dealing with the DC TOS series. -- sulfur 11:13, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for that Sulfur. I'll keep an eye out.–Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 23:21, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

I can't find the precise quote, but he discussed his issues (which were with Richard Arnold) in the letters column of #19, when he left the series, and makes some notes about it here. He also (apparently) discussed the situation in an interview in "Speakeasy #112: Comics Interview Star Trek Special magazine". Mike W. Barr discussed the issues at several conventions and interviews too. One of the major problems was the introduction of characters who were not in the original series. -- sulfur 00:11, March 4, 2011 (UTC)
