The element Gallium was discovered in 1875 by Lecoq de Boisbaudran. The metal was named after Gallia, the old Latin word for France. In the early 20th century is was mainly used to build mirrors. In the 2nd half of the 20th century it was mainly used in nuclear facilities to prevent radiation from leaking. (Gallium can be alloyed with almost any other metal)

The above information was removed as it is a real-life description of the element which has no relevance in Trek. There is no need for such info here; this is why we include a link to the Wikipedia article. That said, if there was a Trek episode which specifically stated the above, feel free to re-add while citing that episode. --From Andoria with Love 14:21, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Was Gallium one of the components of the microbrain, or something mentioned on the planet? Zsingaya 09:18, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
    • Yep, it was mentioned in "Home Soil", I added the reference. --Jörg 12:43, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
