Carbon?Edit

I didn't mention that fullerenes were made of carbon since it wasn't mentioned in the episode. Although the current definiton of fullerene constitutes a carbon molecule, the fullerenes seen on screen were pink – I wondered if this indicated that in the future, fullerenes could potentially be made of other atoms as well? Thoughts? -Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa 15:34, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Wait, they are visible? Real ones aren't visible, IIRC. Hold on, I'm going to look at the episode (well, what screencaps I can find)... --OuroborosCobra talk 15:41, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
OK, saw it, and it is the size of a softball (hell, bigger). Those must have been children's models of the real thing. --OuroborosCobra talk 15:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
The episode does state that "we made Fullerenes in chemistry class and filled them with water" indicating to me that these are actual fullerenes, though I suppose they could be models. I did find an article that says that the color of carbon is dependent on the light, so it is possible that it is made of carbon in TNG, though the fact that it is rather large and solid may indicate that fullerenes can be made out of other atoms. I may just add a background section to the article mentioning this. -Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa 15:46, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
