Where is this term from? It is not mentioned in the dialogue of "The Ensigns of Command" (Troi says "They (The Sheliak) have learned several Federation languages, but theirs continues to elude us." and "They consider our language irrational, and demanded this level of complexity to avoid any future misunderstandings."

Treaty of Armens

The Treaty of Armens

Furthermore, the excerpt of the Treaty of Armens seen on the main viewer features two languages: "English language version (United Federation of Planets" and "Sheliak language version (Sheliak Corporate)". No mention or evidence for "Federation standard", at least not in this episode. I might be wrong, but I think the term "Federation standard" is an invention of the novels or was just used behind the scenes, it was never referenced in dialogue (at least can't find it through a script and transcript search). --Jörg 10:33, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Okrand Edit

Many of Marc Okrand's books use the term "Federation Standard", 69.133.102.190 19:45, May 26, 2012 (UTC)

His books are not canon, which is why this article was deleted. 31dot 01:25, May 27, 2012 (UTC)
