Still needs attention. Organized by time frame. Need to verify dates of extinction. Not happy with "Pre-Federation" but couldn't think if something better. Not-So-Distant-Past, Not-So-Recent-Past, Just-Right-Past.--StarFire209 05:09, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Assimilation ? Edit

A species completely assimilated by the Borg is no longer evolving, no longer procreating. Would that count as extinction? Is it worth a mention or a See Also? -– StarFire209 06:25, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Starfire209,
I'd support something along those lines. Your comment inspired the creation of the subsequent section and sub-section and their attendant questions by me. Good idea.

Near-extinction? Edit

This is somewhat of a follow up to the above assimilation question, but what about a (very minor) background section that lists possibly or nearly-extinct species? Two that come to mind are the race almost entirely assimilated by the Borg in VOY: "Dark Frontier", though Seven tried to save a handful; I'd bet, however, they ended up either dying out or assimilated. Another is Arturis' species, which was essentially wiped out by the Borg, albeit with a few tens of thousands of (now homeless) survivors. (VOY: "Hope and Fear")

Aside from Borg assimilation, at least one Alpha Hirogen believed his race was becoming so nomadic and far-spread that they'd soon become extinct. Others shared this view, which led them to create "holographic hunting stations" – notwithstanding the fact that it backfired. (VOY: "The Killing Game", "Flesh and Blood")

The Krenim Ordeal Edit

On a (partially) related note, many civilizations were referred to as "extinct" by Annorax until his timeship was destroyed. (VOY: "Year of Hell", "Year of Hell, Part II").

Just wondering if any of the above quasi-extinctions would be worthy of placing them in a "Background" section.
