- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is actually contradictory in its own lines, as Khan both mentions the wars happening in 1996, and that that he ruled the earth during the war 200 years before (2085). Perhaps as if he isn't actually clear when he left.
Removed from 2085:
- According to Khan in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the dates of Eugenics Wars are contradictory. Khan both says that his ship was lost in space in 1996. However, Khan also says he was ruling over the Earth two hundred years before 2285 (c. 21st century): KHAN: "This is Ceti Alpha Five. ... Ceti Alpha Six exploded six months after we were left here. The shock shifted the orbit of this planet and everything was laid waste. Admiral Kirk... never bothered to check on our progress. It was only the fact of my genetically engineered intellect that enabled us to survive! On Earth, ... two hundred years ago, ... I was a prince, ... with power over millions." KHAN: "Captain! Captain! Save your strength. These people have sworn to live and die at my command two hundred years before you were born. Do you mean he never told you the tale? To amuse your captain? No? Never told you how the Enterprise picked up the Botany Bay, lost in space in the year nineteen hundred and ninety-six, myself and the ship's company in cryogenic freeze?" Several interpretations exist; either Star Trek II took originally took place c. 2185 (and was later retconed to 2285) or Khan was not actually aware when he left or became lost. The also states that Khan was a "product" of the 20th century, which could have meant something else in hindsight; see Project Khan. The two hundred year line is based on two lines from TOS that state that Khan had been sleeping for two hundred years, which was also contradictory with the 1996 date at the time (assuming that "Space Seed"'s story took place in the 23rd century): KIRK: "How long have you been sleeping? Two centuries we estimate. Landing party to Enterprise. Come in.", KHAN: "I remember a voice. Did I hear it say I had been sleeping for two centuries?" Working the dates from TOS: "Space Seed" would have set the time he was shipped off earth at 2067. DS9 makes a mistaken reference (to the two hundred year quotes) which would have placed the Eugenics Wars in the 22nd century (2173) if taken literally. (DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume")

- Both TOS: "Space Seed" and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan give two contradicting dates for when Khan was ruling the planet (Eugenics Wars), and when left in the Botony Bay. While some lines state that the wars ended and he left in 1996. Characters including Kirk and Khan also state that he ruled 200 years before (c. 2067 or 2085). Alternatively its possible that TOS/Movies were originally set in the 22nd century rather than the 23rd, but later retconned. In the original TOS timeline the intended date for the future in both sources was likely c. 2196-2011 range. DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume" mistakenly used the 200 years before references, implying Eugenics Wars taking place in 2173. Utilizing the 200 years before date based on series retconning TOS/ST2 to the 23rd century would place the clone wars roughly somewhere in the c. 2067-2085 period.
- Similar discussions were made back when DS9 was being made, as Menosky stated, "I heard they were going to point blank, have a statement that said the Eugenics Wars occurred in the 21st century. That was the rumour that was floating through the building. I think that people would have hit the roof if they would have done that, so maybe they just decided to leave it up in nebulous hyperspace. The point is, if they would have gone that route, then you would have had to come up with some theory about how history got screwed up. The records got destroyed, or something messed up the original dates."
Removed from 2173:
- *The date of the Eugenics Wars given in Deep Space Nine. Said by the writer to have been a mistake. (DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume"). "I don't think so. Two hundred years ago we tried to improve the species through DNA resequencing, and what did we get for our trouble? The Eugenics Wars. For every Julian Bashir that can be created, there's a Khan Singh waiting in the wings. A superhuman whose ambition and thirst for power have been enhanced along with his intellect. The law against genetic engineering provides a firewall against such men and it's my job to keep that firewall intact. I've made my offer. Do you accept?" The 200 year reference is based on similar 200 year references made in both TOS: "Space Seed" and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan which taken at face value would place Eugenics Wars/Botony Bay around 2067 or 2085.
All of this info is speculation, is picking and choosing from bits and pieces. Have a discussion in a single place, lay out the evidence, then put together something CONCISE that doesn't drag everything through the mud. -- Sulfur (talk) 11:07, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Altered Date[]
Per the newest episode of SNW, various attempts at temporal manipulation + the timeline righting itself resulted in the Eugenics Wars being shifted forward multiple decades. Ømn1 (talk) 12:15, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
