Enhancement module vs tech cube
The script calls the yellow cube a "tech cube" and Barclay explicitly calls it an "enhancement module" - but he says this after plugging the cube into a briefcase sized piece of hardware (see screenshot). So is the enhancement module the cube, or the briefcase thing? -Rhinecanthus rectangulus 18:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- In my most humble opinion, I would call it the Enhancement module. I haven't seen the episode in a while, but when I read the episode's article ("Ship in a Bottle"), it seems that Barclay pulled the yellow cube out of the holodeck and then later put it in the briefcase thing. This seems to me that the cube carries the actual program (like a hard drive or floppy disk) and the briefcase thing is just a power supply unit or something that keeps the program running (like a CPU). ---- Willie LLAP 19:31, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Redux
Having just watched the episode, it definately sounds like the enhancement module is the large device that Barclay puts the cube in. Prior to him picking up the "briefcase", he always refers to the cube as "the cube." When he picks the "briefcase" up, he says "This enhancement module contains enough active memory to provide them with a lifetime of experiences." It looks like the oblong device provides the "active memory" for their experiences while the cube simply stores their programs. Furthermore the script seems to imply this aswell when it says "Barclay picks of the TECH cube and inserts it in a slot inside a larger, briefcase sized piece of hardware with BLINKIES on it." I think the cube could be the optronic data core as seen in "The Killing Game, Part II". --| TrekFan Open a channel 00:56, March 21, 2011 (UTC)
