Needs attentionEdit

  • Emotion, needs some link to Star Trek. -- Redge | Talk 14:43, 1 Nov 2004 (CET)
  • Did some rewriteing and removed the Needs attention message -- Q 15:34, 30 Jan 2005 (CET)
    • There's still a lot that can be said here about Data, Troi and Seven and perhaps Odo. Tyrant 15:43, 30 Jan 2005 (CET)Tyrant
      • Maby only about Seven in that the Borg implants will react in the event of resurfaceing emotions ones disconnected from the hive. Not about the rest, in mine opinion that deals with how a person deals with emotions not what they are. -- Q 15:55, 30 Jan 2005 (CET)
        • If not Troi personally, we should at least address empaths. Tyrant 15:59, 30 Jan 2005 (CET)Tyrant
        • Agreed, I added the incomplete message. It needs some info about empaths and how disconnected drones can(not) experience emotions. -- Q 16:06, 30 Jan 2005 (CET)

Neurobiology Edit

The neurobiological explanation of humanoid emotion is that it is a pleasant or unpleasant mental state organized in the limbic system of the sentient brain. Emotions are sentient elaborations of arousal patterns, in which neurochemicals step-up or step-down the humanoid brain's activity level.
Primary (that is, innate) emotions, such as fear, depend on limbic system circuitry, with the amygdala and anterior cingulate gyrus being key players. Secondary emotions (for example feelings attached to objects, events, and situations through learning) require additional input from the prefrontal and somatosensory cortices.

Background Edit

Researchers currently believe that emotions are the first form of intelligence. The associations between emotions and events enabled early man to repeat rewarding events and avoid baneful ones. Modern theory holds that emotions are vitally important in making decisions for similar reasons.

Neither are actually valid as, the first one was never mentioned on screen and the second has nothing to do with anything. — Morder 09:22, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
