PNA Edit

pna-inaccurate; Slight problem, we don't know that all alien variations of eel are in fact fish. We are basically assuming with the current content of the article that all alien eels are Earth-eels in design when we know or in most cases don't know that that is always the case, much less fact. Look at the ceti eel for example, not a fish. --Alan del Beccio 04:49, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)

  • I get your point, but i'll explain my reasoning. I won't claim however that it is free of assumption. I'm 'assuming' that taxonomy would continue and biological scientific naming would not be undone. Therefore, something called an eel would be an eel based on the fact that planets seem to follow similar structures of evolution, as observed in many animals in startrek. From this it seems that an eel is be fish. And we know that not all fish live in water. I'm not going to fight for this tooth and nail if a canon claim is called, but shouldn't we assume they were called eels because they are eels? Jaf 17:34, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)Jaf
I'm going with Alan. Taxonomy has nothing to do with coloquialism - a Ceti Eel is no more a true zoological eel than a seahorse is an equine land mammal. I am editing this article.--The Rev 19:24, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

  • It is unknown what function these creatures serve, although one could easily imagine them as decorative pets, such as the fish in Picard's office. Also, it is unknown what liquid they are swimming in, only that it can't be water, because we find out in the episode, that the Xyrillians have trouble producing water and that solid cubes with the consistency of gelatin is the closest to water they can come up with.
