Rank?Edit

Just noticing an oddity, a fan fiction reference USS Enterprise Officer's Manual lists her as a lieutenant commander, although I'd think she would be outranked by Ilia, who she was replacing. Has anyone seen her rank insignia in the film? -- Captain Mike K. Barteltalk 00:03, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

  • The rank is on the sleeves like they were in TOS, correct? The stripes on Kirk, Decker and Spock were consistant with the ranks they held: Kirk, stripe-dash-stripe; Decker and Spock both had stripe-stripe, DiFalco had no stripes. Is there some other way to determine rank from that era? --Alan del Beccio 00:27, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Depends on the uniform -- the two piece uniform used sleeve stripes, but the jumpsuits and sleeveless uniforms had the stripes on epaulets on the shoulder, using the same rank system as TOS, with the exception that ensigns wore a broken stripe, and chiefs wore a hollow square insignia.

So if she was wearing a uniform without epaulets, and no rank stripes, that would make her "enlisted" -- and if she wore a uniform with epaulets, the stripes or symbols on the epaulet would show us... -- Captain Mike K. Barteltalk 00:48, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, she was called Chief DiFalco... that normally indicates a rank of chief petty officer. Yes-no? No-yes? ;) --From Andoria with Love 01:12, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, to start off with what was script/dialog, Decker said: "Chief DiFalco, take over Lieutenant Ilia's station." Her uniform was the long sleeve uniform (look at the original image I uploaded in the image history of her image), in another shot it showed the back of her head and shoulders and there appeared to be nothing on her shoulders. --Alan del Beccio 01:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

So the canon version is pretty cut-and-dried. I'm checking on TMP-era enlisted personnel, at least one other, Chief Ross, was referred to as "chief", but had crewman epaulets that lacked the proper chief insignia (which was only seen on Janice Rand, it appears). -- Captain Mike K. DiFalco was also referred to as "Chief DiFalco" in the end credits as well. As for Ross, she was only identified by name in the script and the end credits (as "Chief Ross"), but not actually as such in the dialog. --Alan del Beccio 02:05, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
