Merge[]

This should be merged with Battle of Hampton Roads, like the vessels fighting in the Battle of Fort Hindman were merged to that page. Note that USS Monitor (ironclad) can stay as it was specifically referenced in a deleted scene from "The Savage Curtain". Kennelly (talk) 21:53, October 31, 2016 (UTC)

Given the precedent, merge. --LauraCC (talk) 20:12, November 30, 2016 (UTC)

After all this time, I'm still having trouble unseeing the Virginia in that picture. --Alan (talk) 14:54, February 13, 2019 (UTC)
Oppose; Now that it, unlike the Ford Hindman ironclads, is mentioned by name in an official Star Trek reference work (Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 37)), I can't see why this should be any different from a reference in a deleted scene.--Sennim (talk) 10:09, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
How is being mentioned in the Encyclopedia equivalent to being referenced in a deleted scene, exactly? I don't understand the jump you're making there. -- Capricorn (talk) 12:04, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
Even that aside, this double standard is ridiculous. If we are choosing to identify only the work of art and are therefore not disseminating its contents, the ships shown, then the exact same approach should be taken on identifying lyrics in songs, or dialogue in films viewed by our characters in an episode, as those equal aspects are not the art, they are the contents. --Alan (talk) 12:29, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
That's actually also a consideration I'd on my mind when casting my vote. To the examples you've given I could also add most of the unnamed stuff seen in The Guardian of Forever, the time stream as well as in both versions of the Enterprise opening credits, not to mention things like Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, or most notably Lewis R. Stegman – We are talking about a firm, undisputed visual identification of something seen in Star Trek after all in the underlying case (the Encyclopedia reference is just icing on the cake)...--Sennim (talk) 14:05, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
