I thought caste discrimination was banned by the Federation charter, and no planets with this discrimination were allowed to join. Bajor was almost disqualified in DS9: "Accession", when they almost reverted to the d'jarra system. If so, why is this planet a member of the Federation? I suggest that its because its the only planet that mines Zenite, and this must be important for the Federation, so its ignored in this case. zsingaya 19:22, 9 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Probably the only possible explaination, but it does'nt fit well with Roddenburry's Federation. Roddenburry federation (TOS and early TNG) was rather utopic, a near-perfect "country" with advanced ethics, no racism, no greed... - Also this case is not clean cut discrimination, the federation has evolved above a class system but that does not mean all members have, the people who examined that planet may not have realized exactly how the Trolites were repressed. - My theory is that Ardana did not always have a caste system, but when it was accepted into the Federation was a totally egalitarian society. In the show the Troglites are a "conglomeration of inferior species", so they were probably refugees and immigrants. Over the years they developed an informal caste system. The word they used for these Troglites was a slang term, a bizzare shortnening of a Human term, which leads me to believe that the term is not written into any laws, only indirectly implied. --The Rev 16:05, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
