Arctic Exploration Edit

Unless we know for sure that "Arctic Exploration" was suppose to be an organization, and not something else, we shouldn't state it is. It seems just as likely that the full name of the ship could have been "Arctic Exploration 1". - Archduk3 21:38, September 1, 2011 (UTC)

For me, this ship and the story is silly. Earth Sciences Institute sends a starship (a starship!?) to the Arctic Region on Earth where they discover the remains of a Borg sphere supposedly shot down by the Enterprise-E. Then, after assimilation, this starship leaves Earth and is intercepted by the 22nd century Enterprise. There are far too many problems with this story. I attempt to understand the need for the writers to introduce a threat into Enterprise, but this approach eludes me. I apologize for going on a tangent, but the premise for this episode has always seemed to me that the writers were conceptually lazy and were trying too hard to connect this series with the Trek continuity. A few changes - place the crash on an another world, for example, might have helped the episode. Anyhow, on John Eaves' blog this ship is called a Federation Arctic Exploration Surveyship. Of course, this muddies the water considerably. The sentence in question reflects my thinking in that I thought of largest to smallest: Earth Sciences Institute:Arctic Exploration|A-6 Excavation Team. I am thinking that Arctic Exploration may be a branch, or institute, within the ESI. A situation perhaps mirrored by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. (Further complicating the matter, the insignia for the team identifies them as belonging to Arctic Archaeology, Team 3.) It's a mess, but then the whole episode is a mess.Throwback 03:38, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

A bit of a tangent here, but do we have a clear view of the team's patch? Team 3 might explain the difference between the number of names on it and the number of Humans at the site and on the ship.

That said, there is so much wrong with Federation Arctic Exploration Surveyship that it's just easier to ignore that bit. It should be noted that the ship was labeled with Arctic Exploration, but anything more than that is pushing into speculation, since we simply don't know what that meant. The fact it's on a starship suggests that it might be for more than just exploration on Earth, which would put it above the Earth Sciences Institute. - Archduk3 04:03, September 2, 2011 (UTC)
