Assassination[]

The date of the Enterprise's arrival is in April, to be exact the day Mr. King was assassinated. Note Spock saying that "An important Assassination" was going to take place that day. -- TOSrules

I don't think that this can be considered definite proof for an exact date, and should be removed. You could add that note to "Assignment: Earth" as a background note, though. -- Cid Highwind 10:46, 31 Aug 2004 (CEST)
Considering the episode was aired before that event took place (6 days, to be precise), I don't think it can be tied to that specific event (what about Bobby Kennedy? Why couldn't it be June?). It should be noted as a disturbing coincidence, though... -- Michael Warren | Talk 15:15, Aug 31, 2004 (CEST)
Yeah I don't understand your methods, TOSrules. When they say an assassination, that's an indefinite article. There is no further proof, so there is really no way we can assume he was referring to any event we are thinking of. Memory Alpha is not a home for devising our own facts. -- Captain Mike K. Bartel 15:28, 31 Aug 2004 (CEST)
I agree. It's something to be noted, but shouldn't be used as a way to devise the date.Ryan123450 18:38, 31 Aug 2004 (CEST)

If Bobby Kennedy was further along in his carrier I'd agree it could be him. But as importance to history, King wins. I think, the coincident that King was assassinated soon after the airing, just makes it to good not to be grabbed. --TOSrules 20:46, 31 Aug 2004 (CEST)

We are trying to collect facts, though, not speculation - it doesn't matter how good you think that speculation is, it simply should not be included as a fact. As I said above, that coincidence (in fact, both of them) would still make a good background note in the episode article, it just doesn't have a place here. -- Cid Highwind 22:36, 31 Aug 2004 (CEST)
What about the Coup? the Entprise could have landed on the week of July 16 the week that the Ba'ath Party came to power by coupe in Iraq not major at the time but in time created Saddam no Assassination however The preceding unsigned comment was added by 199.247.253.42 (talk).
We don't speculate we just don't know what assassination took place. end of discussion – Morder 05:09, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Removed the following passage relating to that- we don't speculate on what it might have been unless there is citeable evidence of it.
  • No further details were ever given, though it is sometimes speculated by fans that this might be the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., due to it being on April 4th, less than a week after the episode was first broadcast on 29 March. The only Asian coup in that year was the Ba'athist takeover in Iraq, in mid-July.--31dot 22:44, January 25, 2010 (UTC)
