Subcommander Tal was the 23rd century Romulan first officer of a Romulan battle cruiser. In 2268 Tal is left in command of his ship while his Commander attempted to pursuade Spock to betray Starfleet and join sides with his Romulan cousins.
Tal later pursues the USS Enterprise after Captain Kirk steals the flagship's cloaking device. (TOS: "The Enterprise Incident")
