Taggart's Syndrome was a disorder that would kill a person by the age of twenty in all cases if untreated. If a person was not dead by twenty, it was an obvious indication that they were using Rigelian gene therapy, the only known cure. John Frederick Paxton suffered from this disorder. (ENT: "Terra Prime")

The name is most likely a reference to Chuck Taggart, a character from the short-lived series Odyssey 5, who was played by Peter Weller, who also played John Paxton. Odyssey 5 was also created by Enterprise Executive Producer Manny Coto.
