For the Starfleet Academy course, please see Tactical Analysis.
A tactical analysis was an assessment report of the combat-related strengths, weaknesses, and overall capabilities of an opposing entity. Starship captains ordered a short tactical analysis report of an enemy vessel to help make a quick determination of the available options in a critical situation.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard ordered Lieutenant Commander Data to perform a tactical analysis of a Lysian destroyer when the USS Enterprise-D entered Lysian space in 2368. (TNG: "Conundrum")
In 2379, Captain Picard again ordered a tactical analysis, this time of the Reman warbird Scimitar, from Lieutenant Commander Worf, when the USS Enterprise-E was in orbit of the planet Romulus. (Star Trek Nemesis)
