T. Alan Chafin is a friend of Star Trek authors Peter David and Keith R.A. DeCandido. He also assisted in the plot with Howard Weinstein on the comic "Bait... and Switch".

David and other Trek authors created a character named after Chafin, who has appeared in several Trek novels, including The Siege, Q-Squared, Vendetta, Imzadi, Exiles, Strike Zone, and his eventual death in A Singular Destiny.

Chafin is an author, too, having published the book The Unauthorized Nitpicker's Guide to the SW Saga and written for Starlog and Analog magazines.
