A symmetric warp field was a type of warp field. Starfleet taught the utilization of this type of field in the Advanced Subspace Geometry course at Starfleet Academy.

In 2374, Tom Paris suggested using this technique on an unstable overloading Benthan coaxial warp drive. The field, when extended around the ship, halted the instabilities of the space folding core and allowed it to power down. (VOY: "Vis à Vis")
