The swordfish (Xiphias gladius) was a large edible fish from Earth, named for its elongated rostrum.

While trying to find out Malcolm Reed's favorite food in 2151, Hoshi Sato asked Reed's friend Mark Latrelle if the specialty of a restaurant Reed and Latrelle had visited was swordfish, mahi-mahi, scallops or halibut, but Reed had only chosen the restaurant because of the waitress Maureen.
