Suliban cell ships were the primary ship types used by the Suliban Cabal during the mid-22nd century. They were armed with particle weapons and equipped with cloaking devices.

Cell ships of at least two different types have been observed; one was a one-man fighter about the same size as an NX-class starship's shuttlepod. There was also a much larger but less common version that was additionally equipped with a tractor beam. Both kinds of cell ships could combine to create a larger structure, such as a helix; they could also connect to a salvage ship.

The Enterprise NX-01 captured a small cell ship while rescuing Klaang, a Klingon courier, in April 2151. (ENT: "Broken Bow") Commander Tucker spent months studying the ship, especially its cloaking device, with very little success. In 2152, the captured ship was used to mount a rescue mission on a prewarp planet. Although Commander Tucker believed that he had finally figured out how to operate the cloaking device, he was distressed when the cloak began to fail shortly after their launch. It was then that he realized that power was being drawn from the cloak to the weapons nodes, which he had previously deactivated. Tucker surmised that the nodes were programmed to automatically come back online upon the ship’s launch. Despite this, Tucker was able to re-engage the cloak. (ENT: "The Communicator")

Apocrypha

The cell ship plays a key role in the "Daedalus" books. While preparing the ship for a mission, Enterprise is attacked by aliens from a parallel universe, with Tucker and Hoshi Sato being the only two who escape the attack by using the ship's cloak. Having reunited with the rest of the Enterprise crew, and helping to resolve a crisis in that universe, data acquired from the ship's sensors — Enterprise's sensors having been damaged during the crossover between universes — allows Enterprise to determine the exact conditions in their universe of origin and return home via the anomaly.
