The Sudan was a fairly large nation state that existed in eastern Africa, on the planet Earth. The country bordered with Ethiopia . A map of the world, showing the Sudan, was present in the library computer of the USS Enterprise in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage")
The Sudan has never been directly mentioned in dialogue, but can be seen on a world map in the remastered version of the "The Cage".
