A subspace matrix is a component of a wormhole, the stability of which was directly related the the wormhole's ability to act as a practical passageway through space.

In 2375, Devore inspector Kashyk planned to use one of the USS Voyager's photon torpedoes to destabilize the subspace matrix of a wormhole in Devore space, thereby destroying the wormhole and preventing it from being used by telepathic fugitives. He soon discovered, however, that what he thought were neutrino emissions indicative of the wormhole's location, were actually antimatter residue signatures, and that the Voyager crew had deceived him in order to allow safe passage out of Devore space to a group of Brenari refugees.
