- For the stalk of grain, see Straw (grain).
A straw was a long thin hollow paper or plastic tube, used for sucking up liquids into the mouth.
In 2369, Quark lied to Constable Odo about having his brother, Rom, fix his replicator when in actual fact he was breaking into crew quarters to replicate his beverages. Caught in the act, Quark asked Odo how he knew, to which the constable replied "Rom's an idiot. He couldn't fix a straw if it was bent." (DS9: "Babel")
In 2370, during a cultural exchange on the USS Enterprise-D, the Iyaaran ambassador Loquel used a straw to drink a glass of papalla juice. When he offered Counselor Deanna Troi some, she lifted the lid housing the straw and took a sip from the glass itself. (TNG: "Liaisons")
Later the same year, interphasic parasites contaminated a conduit in a temporary replacement warp core, causing Lieutenant Commander Data's dream program to develop nightmares. In one such nightmare, Dr. Beverly Crusher used a straw to "drink" from Commander Riker's head. (TNG: "Phantasms")
