A stasis box is relic from the ancient Slaver civilization. A type of storage unit, the box generates a field which holds its contents in a state of perfect stasis. Nothing, not even time, can penetrate an operable stasis box. While exceedingly rare, these relics often contain artifacts from the Slaver civilization. (TAS: "The Slaver Weapon").
A stasis box glows when it is near (within a few light years of) another stasis box. This makes the stasis box the only known detector of stasis boxes.
Items found in stasis boxes
- A flying belt, the basis for artificial gravity technology used on starships
- A disruptor bomb, with the pin pulled
- A picture of a Slaver
- A cut of meat, over a billion years old, but still fresh (although the meat was from a species poisonous to Humans and Kzinti)
- A multi-use device
Like many elements from "The Slaver Weapon", the stasis box was a prior invention of science fiction author Larry Niven and appears in his other works.
