The first release of Star Trek: The Original Series on Betamax in the US was on 81 tapes. Each tape contained a single episode, and "The Cage" was released twice. The first had the black & white scenes from Gene Roddenberry's copy of the original episode, while the second was the "rediscovered" all color version and was labeled as tape 99.
A single Betamax tape was issued by CIC Video in the UK featuring the episodes "Whom Gods Destroy" and "Plato's Stepchildren". This release also had a VHS counterpart.
