Star Trek: The Magazine was an officially authorized magazine published from April 1999 to March 2003 by Fabbri Publishing (US), the US arm of UK publisher GE Fabbri.
A total of 48 issues were published in three volumes - twenty-four in volume 1 and twelve each in volumes 2 and 3. In addition, several "special edition" issues sported multiple covers. The publisher also offered readers the opportunity to buy faux-leather dark blue cassettes, only obtainable from the publisher, for storage of the magazines, each cassette capable of holding twelve issues.
Each issue contained numerous interviews, reviews, and (in-universe) technical schematics and diagrams ("Briefings"). About one-third to one-half of each issue repackaged background features and artwork from the Star Trek Fact Files, published by the same company. The largely American-targeted magazine fulfilled the contractual niche in that country promised Fabbri after the Fact Files were sold everywhere worldwide except the US. Unlike the Fact Files, which was wholly conceived as an in-universe publication, The Magazine was a mixture of in-universe and real-world, behind-the-scenes articles. GE Fabbri introduced this formula in edited form in Europe and the Commonwealth in their 2004 release of Star Trek: The Collector's Edition and the 2007 UK and Commonwealth only release of Star Trek: The Original Series - The Collector's Edition, using material originally written for The Magazine.
Issues
Test Issues These issues are extremely rare, as they were only test-marketed in two cities: Columbus and Seattle. They however, only contained excerpts of articles which were later published in their entirety in later issues of the regular run. | |||
