Squid are a large, diverse group of marine animals native to the oceans of Earth. Squid are distinguished by having a distinct head, bilateral symmetry, eight arms and a pair of tentacles. Squid can blend in with their surroundings to avoid predators.

Squid are a popular food item on Earth, where they are referred to as calamari. Benjamin Sisko served squid for himself, Jake and Nog in late 2373. It was Nog's favorite Human food. (DS9: "Blaze of Glory")
