The term Spanish refers to anything originating from the Earth nation of Spain, including its people, as well as the Spanish language.

History

Starting in the late 15th century, the Spanish were infamously known for the Spanish Inquisition. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; DS9: "Q-Less")

The hologram of Leonardo da Vinci, who's program was stolen from the USS Voyager in 2374, recalled the events of how he came to the alien planet, which he believed to be the New World. He tried to piece together his journey, to Kathryn Janeway in terms late 15th and early 16th century knowledge, recalling that "one moment I was packing for my journey to France, the next I was in this land of marvels. Possibly, upon leaving my workshop I was accosted by Spanish sailors. Rendered unconscious, delivered to a galleon in the port of Genoa, and carried like a sack of grain across the vast Atlantic." (VOY: "Concerning Flight")

In discussing the concept of time travel, Malcolm Reed expressed interest in traveling back in time to 1588, when the Spanish Armada was defeated by England. (ENT: "Future Tense")

During a discussion between Deanna Troi and Samuel Clemens in 2369, Clemens' who assumed that the nature of the USS Enterprise-D was one of "military conquest," rather than "exploration", mused that the same was said by all conquerors, including the early Spanish, Dutch, and Portuguese explorers, who revered themselves as also being "explorers". (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II")

A century later, in 1680, the Spanish were involved in a North American uprising known as the Pueblo Revolt, where several Pueblo Indian tribes rose up against the Spanish and drove them out of what was later known as New Mexico. Ten years later, in 1690, the Spanish returned and brutally reconquered the area; killing the Pueblo by the hundreds and maiming thousands more. (TNG: "Journey's End")

Culture

In order to pass the time while en route to Risa in the type 15 shuttlepod Onizuka, Geordi La Forge listened to a piece of Latin music played by a Spanish guitar. (TNG: "The Mind's Eye")

Flotilla, a Spanish word meaning a small fleet of ships, was used by Humans in the 24th century. (VOY: "Alice")
