The Enterprise with two spaceborn entities

This spaceborn entity is a creature that can survive in the vacumn of space and travels with a mate. It is capable of assuming any form. In 2364 a spaceborn entity on Deneb IV was forced to create Farpoint Station by the bandi. Its mate, transformed into a strange ship, fired on the station until it was freed by the Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")

In Orion's Hounds, part of the Star Trek: Titan novel series, the USS Titan under the command of William T Riker encounters this species again. They are variously referred to as "star-jellies" by the Titan crew and "skymounts" by another species who use them as space-travelling vessels.
