Sleeping Beauty is a character in the fairy tale of the same name in the collected works of Mother Goose. In the story, Sleeping Beauty is cursed by a witch, which eventually results with her falling asleep for a hundred years. She would remain asleep until she was reawakened by the kiss from a prince.
The term "Sleeping Beauty" is often used to describe an individual as they sleep.

In 2371, a transporter malfunction due to a temporal anomaly caused Commander Benjamin Sisko and Doctor Julian Bashir to time travel to the year 2024. Two policemen, named Vin and Bernardo Calvera, found the Starfleet officers lying unconscious on a pavement in Sanctuary District A of San Francisco.
