Sleeping Beauty is a character in the fairy tale of the same name in the collected works of Mother Goose. In the story, Sleeping Beauty is cursed by a witch, which eventually results with her falling asleep for a hundred years. She would remain asleep until she was reawakened by the kiss from a prince.

The term "Sleeping Beauty" is often used to describe an individual as they sleep.

In 2152, Commander Charles Tucker III believed that Kaitaama, a Kriosian female in stasis aboard a Retellian freighter, resembled Sleeping Beauty. (ENT: "Precious Cargo")

In 2371, a transporter malfunction due to a temporal anomaly caused Commander Benjamin Sisko and Doctor Julian Bashir to time travel to the year 2024. Two policemen, named Vin and Bernardo Calvera, found the Starfleet officers lying unconscious on a pavement in Sanctuary District A of San Francisco. One of the men, Vin, likened Sisko to Sleeping Beauty. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I")

In 2374, B'Elanna Torres described Harry Kim as "Sleeping Beauty" after he had spent a long time sleeping due to the effect of the neurogenic field emanated by the dream species. What neither were aware of, however, was that they were both still asleep as part of a collective unconsciousness. (VOY: "Waking Moments")
