Siberia was a vast region located on the Asian continent, in the country of Russia. This region extended from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and from the Arctic Circle to Outer Mongolia and China.

In 2268, Sulu spoke of the Tunguska event on Siberia to Captain Kirk while on the Kalandan outpost. Kirk dismissed the comment, stating that if he wanted a Russian history lesson, he would have brought Chekov. (TOS: "That Which Survives")

Background information[]

Siberia was used as the site for a network of forced labor camps during in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Klingon penal asteroid Rura Penthe in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was mainly based on these penal camps. (citation needededit)

According to Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens novel Prime Directive, the incident was a result of benevolent cultural contamination. A Vulcan survey ship redirected a meteor, which would have hit Western Europe and destroyed much of Human civilization, so that instead it impacted in a sparsely populated area of the planet.
