Sherman was an 24th century Starfleet engineer serving aboard the USS Enterprise-D during the mid-2360s, under Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

During the Borg encounter of 2366-2367, Sherman worked on repairs with Reginald Barclay following the Enterprise's unsuccessful attempt to destroy the Borg cube using a burst of energy from the deflector dish. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II")
