Lieutenant Shea was a 23rd century Starfleet security officer serving aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

Shea was a member of the landing party that encountered the Kelvans on an unnamed class M planet in 2268 on stardate 4657.5. Shea and Yeoman Leslie Thompson were both reduced to dehydrated cuboctahedral crystalline solid blocks, the size of a human fist and which represented the "distilled" essences of their being, by the Kelvan Hanar on Kelvan leader Rojan's orders, to demonstrate his power to Kirk. Rojan further proceeded to crush and crumble one of the blocks, killing that person. To show Kirk that the process could be reversed, he restored the surviving block to reveal that Shea was still alive. Thompson, however, was not so fortunate. On stardate 4658.9, Shea would again be neutralized into a dehydrated cuboctahedral crystalline solid block by the Kelvans when they considered him one of many non-essential personnel on their trip to the Andromeda Galaxy on the hijacked Enterprise. Shea would again be restored to normal when Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty, the only four members of the crew not neutralized, regained control of the ship. (TOS: "By Any Other Name")
