Science is a system for the acquisition and organization of empirical and theoretical knowledge. The formal sciences, the natural sciences, and the social sciences are the three primary fields of science. All three divisions had both theoretical and applied components and practitioners. Scientists specifically engage in research using the scientific method to expand the overall body of scientific knowledge, to form hypotheses, and to establish theories.
Science was among the school subjects Keiko O'Brien taught in her classroom aboard Deep Space 9. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets")
